Sefateng Chrome Mine (SCM) with the support of the Sefateng Chrome Valley Development (SCVD) implemented a training programme for Community Youth Development. The programme is informed by the need to train communities on mining related skills to make them eligible for employment opportunities on the mines. In Sefateng’s mine operational readiness plan, the stoping crews are planned to ramp up production and therefore additional crew members will have to be employed who will then be sourced from the trained community members.

 

Our Cadets (community members) were trained on Competency B qualification which is the minimum entry level skill to work on the mines. The qualification (Comp B) is a SAQA registered qualification offered through Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) accredited training providers. Fifteen (15) community members recruited from Mampa, Ga-Phasha and Jibeng village were trained and successfully completed this programme on the 09 September 2022.
